LOA 60 ft. - LWL 59 ft. - Beam 20 ft. - Disp. 130,000 lbs. - Draft 6 ft.

The R-60 is designed to be a full time liveaboard cruiser with the capability to make safe, ocean crossing passages.

The R-60 is available to any stage of completion, from hull, deck and house kit to complete boat. We feel a kit represents the best value, since, with the addition of a lot of “sweat equity” labor, an owner can have a beautiful boat at a substantial savings from the price of buying a completed boat.

The fiberglass laminate is a minimum of 166% of the ABS recommended laminate for boats of 73’ to 90’. Her deck and pilothouse are cored with 1” balsa for excellent stiffness and insulation, with solid fiberglass where fittings will be through bolted. Her hull sides are cored with 1” balsa down to 1’ above the DWL, with solid glass from that point on down.

The hull has 3 ozs. of mat laminated next to the gelcoat with vinylester resin. Use of vinylester resin, which is impervious to just about everything, means that blisters should never be a problem.

Laminate thickness, which is at best, only an indication of laminate strength, is a question which is always asked. The ABS uses the strength of woven roving for their recommended laminate schedules. We use knit fabrics, which are 20-25% stronger than woven roving. For those of you who still want to know the approximate thicknesses, the house, deck and hull sides have two skins of glass with a total thickness of 1/2 “. The chine is 1 ¾” thick, the bottom is 7/8” thick, and the keel is 1 ¾” thick.

All tanks (fuel, water, and holding) are integral and made with vacuum infused vinylester resin and glass. This method of tank construction, although more costly, ensures that the tanks will last as long as the boat.

The maximum hull speed of 10.3 knots will require about 300 SHP, while realistic cruising speeds of 7.5-8.5 knots will require only 118 -150 SHP. With approximately 2400 gallons of fuel, the R-60 should have a range in excess of 2700 nm at 8.5 knots, which will get you from San Francisco to Honolulu in 12 ½ days with a 200 nm fuel reserve. Slowing down to 7.5 knots gets you there in just under 14 days with a 550 nm fuel reserve.

The four main bulkheads are the only fixed elements in the design. Everything else can be moved to suit the individual owner. We envision the Passagemaker layout for a couple who will liveaboard full time and take an additional one or two crew for ocean passages. The Coastal Cruiser layout, with berths for eight, would be great for taking friends, or the grandkids, harbor hopping up and down the coast.
